Committee Introduction

The Qing Dynasty, after ruling over China with an iron fist for nearly 2 centuries, faced it’s biggest defeat against British Naval Forces in the First Opium War. After Hong Kong was lost, civil unrest grew over the years, and from the Southern Region of the country rose a supposedly divine individual with a mission to bring the country back to it’s former glory: Hong Xiuquan. Hong proclaimed himself a son of god, the brother of Jesus, and the savior his country needed to be rid of the Qing Dynasty. After claiming Tianjing as the capital of his newly formed Taiping Heavenly Kingdom he waged war against the Qing Dynasty, which led to one of the bloodiest wars in all of history. Delegates of this committee will be the side of the Taiping Rebellion, with the end goal of taking over the majority of China and overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. The Qing remain powerful and are heavily influenced by foreign empires such as Britain and France. Internal divisions, fragile alliances, and the immense logistical implications of your actions will reshape Chinese history. Will the Qing be successful in stopping the threat looming from the South or will Hong be able to defeat an already busy Dynasty to bring order to China and avoid the potential century of humiliation?
